FAQ

Performance

While we generally don't offer "off-the-shelf" stages, we do find that breaking down modifications in this way can help customers understand and budget for their power goals. In addition to our recommended modifications listed in the FAQ above, we recommend:

Highly Recommended Mods:

1. Boost solenoid: This will give your car a smoother boost response and better boost holding, making the car feel stronger and more consistent.

2. Blow off valve: The i30 factory valve is plastic and prone to leaking under heavy boost loads. Aftermarket valves don't leak.

3. Oil Catch Can (specifically for the PCV): This mod will help to prolong the life of a direct injection motor.

Stage One Power Mods:
Expect around 145kw and 320-340Nm of torque at the wheels.

1. Intake

2. Intercooler Resonator Delete

3. Race pipe (2nd Cat Delete) or xForce Catback Exhaust

4. Spark Plugs

5. Tune

Stage Two Power Mods:
Expect around 150-155kw and 360-380Nm of torque at the wheels.

1. Downpipe

2. Intercooler

3. Retune

Stage Three Power Mods:
This is pushing the limit of the factory engine without being rebuilt and approaching the limit of the DCT. Expect around 180-190kW and 400+ Nm of torque at the wheels.

1. High flow turbo

Past This:

1. Water meth injection.

Yes, we do. We have made a 3" midpipe flange option for our turbo downpipes which have work with the xForce Catback Exhaust.

Yes, it is specifically made for that car.

Suspension

Usually there are two factors customers need to consider when choosing the right lowering springs. The first is how low they want their car and the second is how comfortable they want driving to be.

For the i30 PD, the stock springs are the 'hardest' followed by:

Eibach
King Springs
Whiteline

Whiteline springs are generally the most comfortable and they also offer the lowest drop of 35-40mm.

The drop for each spring can be found their product pages linked above.

Exhausts

1. Cherry Tuning Muffler Delete:
This is one of the louder options. We custom make each one so the quality is immaculate. It's all bolt on as well, so you don't need to cut into your car or anything. You can also choose a colour for your tips.

2. Sport Exhaust:
In this video, we compare the Hyundai i30 stock exhaust with the sports exhaust. Depending on how loud you want your car to sound, there is also the option to purchase with a race pipe.

If you want your car to sound exactly like in the video, you will need to also purchase the race pipe. You can select one from the drop down menu options on the product page.

3. xForce Valved Cat Back Exhaust
If you want your car to be loud, but also concerned about the sound in your neighbourhood, the xForce exhaust is a good choice. This exhaust comes with a remote control that can open or close the valves, so you can control how loud your car is. You can also choose the colour of your tips.

Intakes

While a few factors may come in to play when choosing the right intake for your car, here are some of our thoughts on the different intakes we sell:

AEM Hyundai i30 SR/N-Line Cold Air Intake

At Cherry Tuning, this is our favourite intake. It is the most functional and sounds the best (according to what we like at least!).

As one of the longer intakes available, it runs out of the engine bay and under the headlights where it breathes the coldest air possible.

It is "technically" not enclosed, however the filter is in the guard and we haven't had any issues with customers and the law when using these intakes.

Hyundai / Kia 1.6T - aFe Takeda Cold Air Intake - Stage 1

This intake is a stealth intake and very close to stock. It's fully enclosed and therefore should abide by most state laws - we say should, because we are not lawyers and don't know the laws of every state or country. We recommend checking with your state's laws if you have any concerns.

With this intake you get a whole new airbox and it uses the stock airfeeds. It has a low sound and high flow, but is a bit pricier than some other intake options.

1.6T Intake Pipe

A simple and cost effective intake solution.

With this set up, you can retain the factory airbox. This intake is quiet when used with the stock airbox, while still offering improvements to air flow.

If you also purchase the add on pod filter, the intake will transform into the loudest option for intakes that we offer.

If you go down this path, however, there are no brackets to hold the intake in place nor a heat shield for the filter - meaning that this intake (with the pod filter) is the least road legal option and is also drawing in the hottest air from the engine bay. If however, you're someone that wants to retain the factory airbox, then this is a great solution.

K&N Intake for 1.6T Hyundai/Kia (2017+)

While K&N claim that this filter makes slightly more power than the AEM intakes, we have not been able to replicate any significant power differences. This intake features a partially enclosed pod filter (when the bonnet is closed it creates a seal) and uses the factory air feed. The sound is louder than most AEM and aFe intakes, except for the AEM intake we listed first in the FAQ.

AEM Hyundai i30 SR/N-Line Air Intake

This intake is by far our most popular and top selling, mainly because it is considered by most to be the best looking. While the filter is covered with a shield. it is technically not fully enclosed...(though it still looks more "road legal" than other options).

This intake has a medium sound, but most people are happy to trade off sound for aesthetics.

Tuning

We have a couple of options for our interstate customers with regards to tuning.

QLD / Brisbane Customers:
We have partnered with MRPS Automotive based in Capalaba so that we can tune customer's cars remotely. This means that the tunes are still performed by Cherry Tuning. We are able to use the dyno and datalogging information available to us, as well as feedback from MRPS' resident tuner, to write the tunes remotely.

VIC / Melbourne Customers
For customers based in Victoria, once a year we do a trip to Melbourne to specifically tune cars. We do have limited spots available, so if this is something that you're interested in, follow us on Facebook and Instagram - we'll release the date and info there first.

Remote Tuning
If you live elsewhere in Australia, the alternative is to purchase the tuning hardware we offer on our website. This will allow the owner to pull their stock file and email it to us to be modified. We modify this file, send it back and give the owner instructions as to how to datalog their car. We use this logging information to update the tune and send a revised tune back to the owner. This can happen 2-6 times depending on each individual car and the owner's feedback regarding the tune. This service is all included in the tuning cost, which is an additional charge to the tuning hardware itself.

With this option, you also have the ability to flash your own car back to stock should you ever want to remove the tune.

There are a couple of ways to get your car to make pops and bangs, but the best method for you depends on how loud you want your car to be.

In general to get your car to make 'pops and bangs', you need both a tune and to remove one or more cats. How many cats you decide to move will determine how loud the pops and bangs are.

If for example, you just get our pop tune and you have a stock exhaust, it's unlikely you'll be able to hear your car making any pops.

Depending on how loud you want to go, here are a few popular options for i30 owners (though there are many more!)

1. You can get a Cherry Race Pipe and a Pop Tune.
This is the cheapest way to hear the pops, but it will be on the quieter side, which some people prefer.

2. xForce Catback Exhaust with a Pop Tune
This is the most popular option and we can make the pops quite loud here.

3. Cherry Tuning Downpipe + xForce Catback Exhaust + Pop Tune
This is the loudest, most aggressive option.

Our pop tunes are $250 and you can find the prices of the Race Pipe, xForce Catback Exhaust, and Downpipe on the links provided above.

Very few modifications on these cars require a tune. If you've heard otherwise, it is likely from someone coming from a background of older, less technologically capable cars with less adaptive computers.

The computer and the sensors used in the Hyundai i30 PD 1.6 turbo cards are very advanced and highly capable at adapting to modifications. For example, these cars do not use an airflow meter in the intake and as such do not require a tune for an intake.

While a tune is optional in majority of cases, it is the best value option to give the biggest power gain for dollars spent. We recommend getting in contact if you have any concerns or questions.

Crackle Tune
For the non-turbo, while we can do a crackle map, the cat in the manifold won't handle it for long and will collapse/fail very quickly. We have done it before and every time the cat has failed and needed to be replaced.

The cat is part of the manifold, it's all a single piece, so you need to run an aftermarket manifold to be able to do any kind of crackles on the non-turbo car... Basically you need to delete the primary cat in the manifold, and you need to replace the second cat with a high-flow cat.

Power Tune Only (no pops)
We have a power tune available which on average achieves around a 20+ HP gain. These results are dependant on some minor modifications and tuned for 98 Octane.
