Hyundai's first proper N, Nurburgring-baked

The pre-facelift i30 N kicked off Hyundai's N division, developed at the Nurburgring under ex-BMW M boss Albert Biermann. The 2.0L Theta II turbo (G4KH) makes a stout 202kW and 353Nm, with an 18-second overboost punch lifting torque to 378Nm from 1750-4200rpm. The Performance pack adds an electronic LSD, bigger brakes and the variable exhaust as standard.

What is the best first upgrade?

Our Stage 1 (CT500) package - not just a tune on its own. It is a high-flow downpipe, one-step-colder spark plugs, an upgraded blow-off valve and an engine pitch mount, finished with the tune, and each part earns its place. The factory downpipe has two cats in it and is a major restriction; we step the plugs one heat range colder as best practice when adding power, to keep cylinder temps down; the factory BOV is a plastic unit with a rubber seal that has been known to leak once the car is tuned; and the pitch mount is quick to fit while the downpipe is already out, and tames the axle tramp these cars are known for. The tune then makes the most of the lot.

What sort of power gains can I expect?

With our Stage 1 (CT500) package you can generally expect a gain of around +25kW and +95Nm at the flywheel. There is plenty more from there.

How much further can it go?

Stage 2 (CT550) adds the full bolt-ons; pre-facelift cars can also step up to the facelift turbo (our CT575), and a hybrid turbo (CT600) is there for big power.
