Hyundai · i30 Hatch · PD (2017+) - Non-Turbo

No turbo means no easy power

The non-turbo PD i30 runs the 2.0-litre Nu petrol (badged GDi at launch, 2.0 MPi after the facelift) making 120kW and 203Nm. It's the economy end of the i30 range and shares almost nothing tuning-wise with the i30 N or 1.6 turbo. With no boost to wind up, there's very little real-world performance to unlock - this is a car to keep reliable and tidy, not to chase numbers on.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I get a tune for the 2.0 non-turbo i30?

You can flash an ECU tune, but be realistic - on a naturally aspirated engine you're typically looking at single-figure kilowatts and slightly sharper throttle response, not a transformation. There's no boost to turn up, so the gains are modest and mostly about feel.

What's the best first mod for this car?

Honestly, spend on maintenance and tyres before chasing power. If you want a sharper drive, a quality set of tyres and fresh suspension bushes do far more for the way it feels than any bolt-on engine part on the atmo 2.0.

Do intakes and exhausts make a real difference?

On the non-turbo 2.0 the gains are small and mostly about induction noise rather than measurable power. A cat-back can wake up the sound, but don't expect it to show up at the wheels - this engine just isn't very responsive to breathing mods.

Are there any known weak points I should watch?

The Nu 2.0 is generally tough, but keep on top of oil changes - some 2.0 MPi/GDi engines in this family have a reputation for oil consumption as they age. Check service history and watch the dipstick between services rather than relying on the warning light.
