A manual-only hot hatch with a factory LSD

The i20 N is one of the last small turbo hot hatches sold here as manual-only, and Australian cars come with a mechanical limited-slip diff (Hyundai's N Corner Carving Differential) plus an upgraded clutch from the factory. The 1.6 turbo is rated at 150kW and 275Nm, but its ECU already runs overboost to 304Nm between roughly 2000-4000rpm, which is part of why it cracks 0-100 in 6.2 seconds.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the best first upgrade?

Our Stage 1 (CT400) package rather than a tune alone. It is a race pipe (or a cat-back) to remove the restrictive secondary cat, one-step-colder spark plugs, an intake, and an intercooler resonator delete, finished with the tune. The secondary cat is the single biggest restriction on these 1.6Ts - we have measured gains from deleting it before a tune even goes on; the colder plugs keep cylinder temps in check as power climbs; the intake and resonator delete free up flow cheaply; and the tune ties it all together.

What sort of power gains can I expect?

With our Stage 1 (CT400) package you can generally expect a gain of around +35kW and +55Nm at the flywheel.

How much further can it go?

Stage 2 (CT450) adds a downpipe and intercooler; a hybrid turbo opens up much bigger numbers with supporting fuel and clutch work.
