An i30N drivetrain in an SUV

The Kona N runs the same 206kW/392Nm 2.0L Theta II turbo, 8-speed wet DCT and electronic LSD as the i30N hot hatch, just in a taller body. That shared hardware is the whole story for tuning: parts and software developed for the i30N largely carry straight over, so the Kona N punches well above what its sales numbers would suggest.

What is the best first upgrade?

Our Stage 1 (CT500) package - not just a tune on its own. It is a high-flow downpipe, one-step-colder spark plugs, an upgraded blow-off valve and an engine pitch mount, finished with the tune, and each part earns its place. The factory downpipe has two cats in it and is a major restriction; we step the plugs one heat range colder as best practice when adding power, to keep cylinder temps down; the factory BOV is a plastic unit with a rubber seal that has been known to leak once the car is tuned; and the pitch mount is quick to fit while the downpipe is already out, and tames the axle tramp these cars are known for. The tune then makes the most of the lot.

What sort of power gains can I expect?

With our Stage 1 (CT500) package you can generally expect around +35kW and +55Nm at the flywheel.

How much further can it go?

Stage 2 (CT550) adds the full bolt-ons; the Kona N shares the i30 N drivetrain, so a hybrid turbo is on the table for more.
